Court Orders Final Forfeiture of Four Lagos Properties Linked to Alleged Drug Trafficking

The Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the final forfeiture of four properties belonging to a Lagos-based socialite, Suleiman Ganiu Aremu, also known as ‘Barryshine’ and ‘Ejeoto,’ to the Federal Government after ruling that the assets were proceeds of alleged drug trafficking activities.

Justice Musa Kakaki delivered the judgment on a suit marked FHC/L/MISC/1344/2025, granting the application filed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for the permanent forfeiture of the properties.

The NDLEA, through its counsel, Abu Ibrahim, argued that investigations established reasonable grounds to believe that the properties were acquired with proceeds derived from unlawful activities, particularly drug trafficking and drug dealing.

During the hearing, Abu Ibrahim represented the NDLEA, while Chinedum Okoro appeared for the owner of one of the affected properties located at 55 Queen Street, Alagomeji, Yaba, Lagos.

Olatunji Abisoye also appeared as counsel for the respondent/applicant.

After reviewing the application and hearing submissions from all parties, Justice Kakaki held that the anti-narcotics agency had established sufficient grounds for the final forfeiture of the assets.

The judge ruled that, "An order of this Honourable Court is hereby granted that final forfeiture be made in respect of the properties listed in the schedule to this application reasonably believed to be proceeds of unlawful activities, to wit: drug trafficking/dealing.”

The properties affected by the order are located at 55, 55A, 63 and 72 Queen Street, Alagomeji, Yaba, Lagos State.
