EFCC Arraigns Ex-CCT Chairman Danladi Umar Over N15.5m Fraud, Nepotism Charges

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday, July 9, 2026, arraigned Danladi Yakubu Umar, former Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), before Justice U. P. Kekemeke of the FCT High Court, Maitama, Abuja.

Umar, who also chaired the Tribunal’s Tenders Board, is facing a four-count charge bordering on nepotism and conferment of corrupt advantage to himself amounting to N15,587,833.76.

According to the EFCC, Umar allegedly facilitated payments to his wife, Zulaihatu Danladi Umar, through contractors linked to CCT projects.

Count one alleged that on October 5, 2021, he caused N5.5 million to be paid into her Keystone Bank account by Kurchmives International Limited, a sub-contractor under Momanaf Global Ventures Limited, which handled internal and external painting of the CCT headquarters.

Count two stated that on January 25, 2024, he allegedly caused another N6 million to be paid into her Zenith Bank account by Portal Realities Limited, a sister company of JTF Global Links Limited. The firm had secured a contract for the digitalisation of CCT management records.

Both counts, according to the EFCC, violate Section 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.

Justice Umar pleaded not guilty to all charges. The counsel for the prosecution, Christopher Mshelia requested a trial date and asked the court to remand the defendant in Kuje Correctional Centre. But the counsel for the defence counsel S. Edward applied for bail.

Justice Kekemeke adjourned the matter to July 15, 2026, for the hearing of the bail application and ordered that Umar be remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre pending the decision.
