Access Holdings, Coronation Group Celebrate Nigerian Modernism’s Global Impact at Tate Modern

Access Holdings Plc and Coronation Group hosted an exclusive reception at Tate Modern to honour the enduring legacy of Nigerian Modernism, a landmark exhibition that has reshaped global narratives around African art.

Running from October 10, 2025, to May 8, 2026, the exhibition showcased nearly 300 works by more than 50 Nigerian artists across five decades, spanning painting, sculpture, textiles, ceramics, and works on paper.

It attracted over 180,000 visitors and reached millions worldwide through media coverage, digital engagement, and educational programming.

The Chairman, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, highlighted the exhibition’s impact on young audiences, noting that nearly 2,800 students of African heritage visited Tate Modern.

“For many of these young people, the exhibition inspired a deeper appreciation of their heritage, reinforcing their sense of identity and pride in their African roots,” he said.

The exhibition also carried diplomatic weight, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu including a private tour during his historic London visit.

Interim Tate Modern Director, Karin Hinsbo, praised the collaboration, describing Nigerian Modernism as a story that had never been told in a UK gallery and crediting Access Holdings and Coronation Group for their commitment.

A defining highlight was the display of seven historic sculptures by Ben Enwonwu, part of the Access Holdings Art Collection, underscoring the importance of cultural stewardship.

The event brought together leaders from business, culture, diplomacy, and academia, cementing Nigerian Modernism’s role as a cultural milestone that expanded scholarship, strengthened international partnerships, and introduced Nigerian art to new audiences worldwide.
