“We Win Together”: Women Leaders Forge New Alliances at Maiden Sisters’ Hangout in Lagos

In a decisive move to rewrite the narrative surrounding female relationships in professional spheres, the Sheraton Hotel in Lagos hosted a transformative gathering on Friday, November 21st.

The maiden edition of Sisters’ Hangout, convened by the Director General of the Imo Broadcasting Corporation (IBC), Chief Ify Onyegbule, successfully brought together a diverse cohort of female executives, entrepreneurs, and creatives with a mission to dismantle the stereotype that women act as the biggest barrier to their progress.

The event was far removed from a typical social gathering. Instead, it served as a strategic incubator for collaboration.

Chief Onyegbule, a veteran broadcaster known for her advocacy, set the tone early. She challenged the attendees to look beyond the surface and view the hangout as the beginning of a new era of sisterhood, support systems, and shared success.

Addressing the room, Onyegbule emphasised that the stagnation often faced by women-owned businesses could be cured through intentional collaboration.

“Women-owned businesses and career trajectories thrive when we create rooms, share opportunities, and collaborate intentionally,” she remarked, urging participants to view one another as distinct partners rather than competitors.

“Today is not just a hangout; it is a strategic movement,” she stated.

The energy at the Sheraton was palpable as participants engaged in high-impact networking sessions and storytelling.

These interactions were designed to break down barriers, allowing women to exchange contact details not just for acquaintanceship, but for tangible business development.

The consensus was clear: the era of rivalry is over; the era of the ecosystem has begun.

Key outcomes from the session included a collective resolve to operationalise their support. Participants committed to: Actively sharing business referrals and specialised knowledge to bridge industry gaps, Initiating joint ventures and partnerships to maximise capital and market reach, providing mentorship structures to capacity-build younger women entering the workforce, fostering a community of accountability where success is celebrated as a collective win.

As the event concluded, the momentum showed no signs of slowing. Chief Onyegbule announced that plans for Sisters’ Hangout 2.0 are already underway, promising a wider reach for women seeking leadership and growth.

Her closing charge resonated deeply with the attendees.

“We are building a tribe of women who think big, grow big, and win together,” she affirmed.
