LAGOS – The Force Criminal Investigation Department (ForceCID) Annexe, Alagbon-Ikoyi, have brought a Trade Fair Complex merchant before a Federal High Court in Lagos over an alleged N25 million land-related fraud.
The defendant, Ejike Maduabuchi Samuel, was arraigned before Justice Ibrahim Ahmad Kala in a suit marked FHC/L/65c/2026.
He is answering questions to alleged conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretences, and the fraudulent conversion of funds.
According to the prosecution led by A. O. Okunuga, the alleged crimes took place in August 2021 at Shop 10, Ondo Plaza, within the Trade Fair Complex off the Badagry Express way.
The court heard that Samuel, alongside others who remain at large, allegedly conspired to defraud three individuals; Mr Chuks Onwughalu, Mr Anthony Onwughalu, and Mr Emmanuel Onwughalu.
The prosecution claimed that the defendant collected N25,000,000 from the trio under the guise of selling them plots of land purportedly located in Anambra State.
Rather than facilitating the transaction, the police alleged that the defendant converted the entire sum to his personal use, knowing the representations he made were false.
But the defendant pleaded not guilty to all charges, prompting the prosecutor to request a trial date and ask the court to remand the defendant in custody.
While the defence counsel requested a short adjournment to file a formal bail application, Justice Kala ordered that Samuel be remanded at a facility of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS).
The matter was thereafter adjourned to March 12, 2026, for the commencement of trial and the hearing of the bail application.
