Nestlé Professional, in collaboration with the World Association of Chefs’ Societies (Worldchefs) and the Association of Professional Chefs Nigeria (APCN), joined chefs worldwide to mark International Chefs Day 2025 under the inspiring theme, ‘Food Explorers.’
The celebration, held on October 21, 2025, at Nestlé’s Sagamu Factory in Ogun State, brought together 10 professional chefs and 40 enthusiastic pupils from Nestlé for Healthier Kids (N4HK) beneficiary schools.
The event offered a unique blend of fun, learning, and creativity centred on nutrition and sustainable food practices.
From planting seeds in the factory’s garden to preparing colourful, balanced meals in the training kitchen, the children embarked on a full farm-to-table experience.
Guided by professional chefs, they discovered how good nutrition, creativity, and sustainability can make healthy eating both exciting and enjoyable.
Speaking at the event, Ibraheem Awelenje, Business Manager at Nestlé Professional, said that International Chefs Day was not only a celebration of culinary excellence but also an opportunity to nurture the next generation.
“For us, International Chefs Day provides the opportunity to not only celebrate those who curate special meals, but also to engage children and nurture the next generation of chefs who are conscious about making healthier meals.
“At Nestlé, we believe nutrition, creativity, and sustainability go hand in hand in shaping a healthier future,” Awelenje stated.
Chef Cyril Agbachom, Team Lead of the APCN delegation, praised the children’s enthusiasm and curiosity.
“Teaching school children about healthy diets in an engaging, hands-on way helps them appreciate nutritious ingredients while having fun in the kitchen. It’s about inspiring curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love for good, healthy food,” he said. “
During a practical gardening session, Mrs Halimat Adeniji, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Food Systems, taught the pupils how to plant and care for local fruits and vegetables.
“Catching them young is key to achieving food security. When children learn to grow and eat our locally available foods, they build healthier habits and a deeper appreciation for nutritious eating,” she noted.
Each pupil left with a plant pot and recipe card as take-home reminders of the lessons learned and the joy of exploring food.
Since 2014, Nestlé Professional and APCN have partnered to promote nutrition education and healthy eating among children in Nigeria.
The initiative supports Nestlé for Healthier Kids (N4HK), a global programme targeting 50 million children to lead healthier lives by 2030, inspiring informed food choices and building stronger, healthier communities one meal at a time.
