In a decisive step towards curbing government expenditure, President Bola Tinubu has implemented new measures restricting the number of vehicles and security personnel assigned to Ministers, Ministers of State, and Heads of Agencies.
As per the directives issued on Wednesday, these officials will now be limited to a maximum of three vehicles in their official convoys.
This initiative forms part of a broader government effort to reduce excessive spending, signalling President Tinubu's commitment to fiscal discipline.
The President also placed a cap on the number of security personnel assigned to each official, limiting them to five members — four police officers and one Department of State Services (DSS) officer.
The announcement, made on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, follows earlier cost-saving measures, including the reduction of the President's and Vice President’s entourages for both foreign and domestic travel.
Earlier, President Tinubu had slashed his foreign travel delegation from 50 to 20 officials, with domestic trips now restricted to 25.
Similarly, the Vice President’s team for international trips was cut to five, with local visits reduced to 15 officials.
Additionally, the President has tasked the National Security Adviser (NSA) with working alongside military and paramilitary agencies to explore further reductions in vehicle usage and security deployments, underscoring his administration's focus on financial prudence.
