Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has denied allegations that a warrant of arrest was issued against him by the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, over an alleged breach of contract.
In a statement dated October 23, 2024, released by his lawyer Akinlolu Oyebamiji, the Yoruba Nation activist refuted a report published by Citynewsng, calling it false and damaging to his reputation.
The statement, titled ‘Rejoinder on the Alleged Allegations of Fraud Against Sunday Adeyemo a.k.a. Sunday Igboho,’ asserted that the publication was baseless.
According to the statement, Igboho was shocked to learn that an ex-parte order had reportedly been obtained by one Captain Ola Alufa, for his extradition and arrest over a contractual matter in which Igboho claimed to have no involvement.
The statement emphasized that the publication was aimed at maligning Igboho’s reputation, which has led to harm to his standing among colleagues, business associates, and well-wishers.
The statement read: “It is disheartening to see a person harming the integrity of his benefactor, as Captain Ola Alufa has done to our client, Sunday Igboho.
“Captain Alufa recently instigated libellous reports against Sunday Igboho in Citynewsng on October 6 and 22, 2024.”
The statement accused Nigerian Police officers of supporting Captain Alufa and allegedly acting beyond their powers in his favour.
It explained that earlier in the year, a contractual dispute over the supply of defective Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) in Cotonou, Benin Republic, led to the involvement of Igboho, although he was not a party to the contract.
The dispute allegedly involved Captain Alufa and Kunnu Olusegun Francis, who had purportedly sought Igboho’s intervention to resolve issues with law enforcement in Cotonou.
Despite Igboho’s efforts to mediate, the contract dispute persisted, the statement maintained.
The statement clarified that Igboho was never involved in the contract or any agreement between the parties but had merely appealed for a peaceful resolution.
Igboho and his legal team, according to the statement, were surprised to learn of the ex-parte order for his arrest and extradition, stressing that the allegations were intended to defame him.
The statement concluded by noting that a petition had been filed with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) on behalf of Igboho for criminal defamation, and legal action had been initiated against Captain Alufa.
Igboho’s legal team also accused Alufa of resorting to a media trial to damage their client’s reputation.
