A tragic accident on the Idi-Iroko axis of Ikorodu Road on Monday resulted in the death of one person and left two others with serious injuries.
The fatal crash, which occurred less than 24 hours after a similar incident, involved a commercial Mazda bus and a fully loaded truck.
According to a statement from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the commercial bus, with registration number LND 490 SD, was reportedly speeding and recklessly attempting to navigate traffic when it collided with a fast-moving truck, registration number EKY 121 YJ.
The impact of the crash, according to the statement, was devastating, adding that a passenger sitting in the doorway of the Mazda bus was thrown from the vehicle and crushed under the rear tires of the truck, dying instantly.
"Two other passengers, a man and a woman, were severely injured and rescued by quick-thinking LASTMA officials.
“They were immediately transported by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) to Ikorodu General Hospital for urgent medical care.
“The deceased's body was later handed over to his family by officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
“The Owutu Police Division provided security support for the rescue and recovery operations.
“Following the incident, LASTMA officials worked to clear the wreckage, restoring the traffic flow on the busy corridor”, the statement posited.
