Legal luminary and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Chief Bolaji Ayorinde, has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Ambassador Ibironke Adefope, describing her as an "Amazon" and "icon" whose life left a lasting imprint on diplomacy, public service, and grassroots development.
Ambassador Adefope, a former Nigerian High Commissioner to Zambia, passed away at the age of 73. Born on February 23, 1952, in Ibadan, Oyo State, she was widely celebrated for her academic brilliance, elegance, and dedication to societal advancement.
In an emotional statement shared with the press, Ayorinde—Chairman of the Governor’s Advisory Council in Oyo State—recalled their collaboration on the committee that secured sole ownership of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) for Oyo State.
“Her contributions and interventions were priceless,” he said. “She was graceful, elegant, and deeply intelligent—a rare fusion of beauty and brains.”
Ayorinde described her death as a profound loss, not only to Oyo State but to Nigeria and the international diplomatic community.
“Ambassador Adefope was, unquestionably, an Amazon,” he wrote. “She carried herself with quiet dignity and wisdom. Her commitment to excellence and service to Nigeria remains etched in our collective memory.”
Reflecting on her tenure as High Commissioner to Zambia, he noted that she was admired for her tact, calmness under pressure, and effectiveness in diplomacy.
“She was one of Nigeria’s most accomplished foreign envoys,” Ayorinde said.
Beyond diplomacy, he highlighted her passion for community upliftment and tireless advocacy for the underprivileged.
“Despite her global engagements, she remained deeply rooted in Oyo State,” he added. “She was a beacon of cultural pride who always honoured her heritage.”
Ayorinde extended condolences to the Adefope family, Governor Seyi Makinde, and the people of Oyo State, urging all to emulate her values.
“Her footprints in public service will remain indelible,” he said. “Let us honour her by upholding service, integrity, and excellence.”
He concluded: “Greatness lies in the lives we touch. Her name will be spoken with reverence; her deeds will continue to inspire.”
