Lagos Assembly Workers Held Over Alleged Attack on DSS Officers

A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered three workers from the Lagos State House of Assembly to be held by the Department of State Security Services (DSS) following accusations that they assaulted its officers.

Justice Daniel Osiagor announced the decision after the DSS lawyer, Michael Bajela, requested that the workers be formally charged.

However, the judge postponed their arraignment so he could take more time to review the case details.

The three individuals identified as Ibrahim Olanrewaju, Adetu Adekunle, and Fatimoh Adetola, will stay in DSS custody until they are officially charged.

The DSS claimed, in a legal document dated February 24, 2025, that these individuals, along with others who have not yet been caught, plotted to obstruct and attack DSS officers while they were doing their jobs at the Lagos State House of Assembly on February 17, 2025.

Additionally, the DSS accused them of using social media to spread false information, suggesting that their actions aimed to stir public unrest and embarrass the agency and its staff.

According to the legal charges, the accused conspired to commit a crime by intentionally sending misleading messages online to harm the DSS's reputation.

Specifically, it is claimed that Olanrewaju and Adekunle recorded and shared false information using an iPhone 12 Pro Max and a Tecno POP 8 smartphone on that same day.

The accusations against them go against several laws in Nigeria designed to protect against such acts, including provisions related to electronic crimes and public safety.
