Pre-Ramadan Lecture: ‘Anyone who fights, kills for religion should be killed’ — Primate Ayodele

In an extraordinary demonstration of religious tolerance and unity, the leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, preached at a pre-Ramadan lecture in Lagos on Sunday, February 23, 2025.

His presence and message of love astonished Muslim faithfuls who attended the event, as such a gesture from a Christian cleric was unprecedented.

During the lecture, Primate Ayodele emphasized that the essence of humanity lies in love, which he described as the one true desire of God from mankind.

He declared that he has not come into this life for religion but to obey divine commandments, with love being paramount.

He also expressed indifference towards personal opinions about him, stating that his sole concern is his relationship with God.

“The only thing God wants is love. I am not against any religion because that’s not what I came into life for.

“I am only seeking God and doing things for God. I don’t care if anyone dislikes me, as long as God does.

“I am happy for what you’ve done—it was God who inspired you to invite me, and I appreciate you for extending the invitation,” Primate Ayodele remarked.

He urged the Muslim faithful present to always embrace love, explaining that true love protects individuals from harm.

According to him, sin distances humanity from God, and love is the key to divine presence.

“If you have love, no one can successfully do anything against you. Sin is what makes love far from us, and Allah is Love. If I didn’t love, I wouldn’t be here.”

In a bold statement, Primate Ayodele called on President Bola Tinubu to implement capital punishment for those who engage in violence or killings in the name of religion, likening them to bandits.

“We urge Tinubu to create laws regarding religion. Anyone who fights or kills for religion should be killed.

“Anyone who fights because of religion should be considered a bandit. I am grateful for this invitation.”

Beyond words, Primate Ayodele backed his message with action, making a donation to the Muslim community and pledging to do even more during Ramadan.

His relationship with the Muslim community has always been amicable, as his church comprises both Muslim and Christian congregants.

He firmly believes in the peaceful coexistence of all religions through love.

Further underscoring his commitment to interfaith harmony, Primate Ayodele initiated a mosque project and invited Etsu Nupe, Imams, and other Muslim leaders to its groundbreaking ceremony.

Additionally, during Ramadan, he consistently shares food items with the Muslim community, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to fostering unity and love across religious divides.
