Court Clears Naira Marley, Sam Larry in Mohbad’s Death Case

The Magistrates’ Court in Sabo, Yaba, has found music star Naira Marley and music promoter Sam Larry not guilty of any criminal involvement in the death of singer Mohbad, whose real name was Aloba Oladimeji Ilerioluwa.

The court, presided over by Magistrate Ejiro Kubenje, based its decision on the DPP which concluded there wasn’t enough evidence to charge them.

Along with Naira Marley and Sam Larry, two others, Primeboy and Mohbad’s former manager, Opere Babatunde, were also cleared of any wrongdoing.

However, the court has ordered that an auxiliary nurse named Feyisayo Ogedengbe and Mohbad’s associate Ayobami Sadiq will face charges for negligence, which will lead to a trial in the Magistrate Court.

The legal advice indicated that although there were signs of earlier assaults involving Naira Marley and Sam Larry against Mohbad, those actions were not directly connected to his death.

The tragic events leading to Mohbad’s death unfolded during a concert in September 2023, where an argument led to Mohbad punching a car’s window.

The broken glass caused a severe cut on his arm that later became infected due to poor medical care.

This infection was ultimately determined to be the cause of his death.

Despite ongoing investigations, the Lagos State government (LASG) decided to move forward with the legal proceedings.

Mohbad’s family will also have the opportunity to provide any independent evidence they might have during the court trial.

The prosecution claimed that Sadiq hired Ogedengbe, to take care of Mohbad’s injury.

Ogedengbe gave Mohbad injections and medications without understanding his medical background, which led to serious health issues.

Shortly after receiving treatment, Mohbad suffered convulsions and was later declared dead at a hospital.

The authorities believe both Ogedengbe and Sadiq acted irresponsibly in this situation, which may have contributed to Mohbad’s tragic passing.

The case also reviewed past incidents where Mohbad had been allegedly attacked by Naira Marley, Sam Larry, and their group.

Reports mentioned that in June 2023, Mohbad was assaulted at a nightclub, and in October, he faced another attack at Naira Marley’s home.

One notably publicized event occurred during a video shoot, where Sam Larry reportedly brought a group to confront and harass Mohbad.

Despite these past assaults, the authorities clarified that these incidents do not link directly to Mohbad’s death.

Notably, Mohbad had previously filed a police report against Naira Marley in 2022 for assault but later withdrew the complaint himself.
