Polaris Bank Hosts 2024 Capacity Building Workshop for Media Practitioners

In line with its commitment to empowering the Nigerian media and enhancing its vital watchdog role, Polaris Bank is organizing an open workshop for journalists across all media sectors.

This initiative is part of the bank's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts aimed at positively impacting key stakeholders.

The 2024 workshop, themed “Integrating AI Tools in Contemporary Media Practices for Innovation and Excellence,” aligns with Polaris Bank’s strategic CSR pillar focused on education and capacity building.

The event aims to strengthen media relations and contribute to the development of Nigeria's media landscape.

Scheduled for Thursday, October 24, 2024, the workshop seeks to equip media practitioners with cutting-edge skills and tools to navigate the evolving challenges of modern journalism.

Participants will explore available Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, learning how to incorporate these tools into their daily routines to enhance news-gathering and storytelling accuracy.

The workshop will also cover contemporary new media practices and highlight career development opportunities.

Key topics will include data journalism, fact-checking, and solutions journalism, ensuring professionals are prepared to excel in the digital era.

Building on the success of previous workshops, especially the 2023 edition that saw hundreds of journalists participate, the 2024 event promises even greater value.

This year’s program will spotlight emerging trends such as media entrepreneurship and career strategies in a competitive environment.

To ensure a rich learning experience, Polaris Bank has engaged top faculty and distinguished experts as facilitators, including Dr Chike Mgbeadichie, Senior Lecturer at the School of Media and Communication, Pan-Atlantic University, and Lekan Otufodunrin, Executive Director of the Media Career Development Network.

Their expertise will guide participants in adapting to technological advancements and maintaining responsible journalism practices.

This initiative underscores Polaris Bank’s dedication to capacity building and its mission to empower media practitioners in addressing the challenges of the digital age.

By providing access to the latest knowledge and tools, the workshop aims to foster the continuous development of journalists and enhance the media landscape in Nigeria.

Polaris Bank has been recognized as Nigeria’s Digital Bank of the Year in 2023, 2022, and 2021 at Business Day’s Banks and Other Financial Institutions (BAFI) Awards.
