Nigeria has been plunged into darkness once again following the collapse of the national power grid on Saturday, October 19, 2024.
This marks the third grid failure in just one week, raising concerns about the stability of the country’s power supply.
The first collapse in this series occurred on October 14, 2024, but was described as a partial collapse by the spokesperson of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Mrs Ndidi Mbah, who noted that electricity remained available in the Port Harcourt region.
However, just hours after partial restoration, a second collapse followed on October 15.
The repeated outages add to a series of grid failures that have plagued Nigeria throughout 2024, including incidents on February 4, March 28, April 15, and July 6.
The frequent collapses have underscored long-standing challenges in maintaining a stable power supply for the nation, disrupting businesses and daily life for millions of Nigerians.
The latest grid failure highlights ongoing concerns about the country’s energy infrastructure, which has yet to see sustainable solutions despite past promises of improvement.
