For allegedly being involved in cyberbullying and threatening to kill a businessman, a woman, Folashade Olalude, has been arraigned before an Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrates’ Court presided over by Chief Magistrate O. A Fowowe-Ersiafe.
Olalude was arraigned by the Force Criminal Investigation Department, ForceCID Annex, Alagbon-Ikoyi Lagos, on four counts of conspiracy, intent to steal, cyber-bullying and threatening to kill the businessman.
In arraigning Olalude, the prosecutor, Mr Henry Obiazi, hinted to the court that the defendant and others now at large between 2015 and 2022, conspired among themselves to commit the alleged offence.
Obiazi particularly informed the presiding magistrate that Olalude, with an intent to steal, demanded over N5 million, on different occasions from One Alhaji Lawal Abdullateef, with a blackmail threat and defame him and his wife, Lizzy Anjorin on the internet as a fraudster or using bloggers’ websites, if he failed to pay the money.
The prosecutor equally notified the court that the defendant, sometime in October 2023, wrote a letter to the businessman, threatening to kill him, with an addition that the defendant equally sent the same threat message to Alhaji Lawal Abdullateef’s phone.
Obiazi insisted that the offence allegedly committed by Olalude contravened Sections 411, 301 and 232 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, and punishable under the same laws.
But Olalude pleaded not guilty to the charge, prompting the prosecutor to pray to the court to remand her in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS), pending the determination of the charge against her.
However, the counsel to the defendant, I. S. Ijenkeri, pleaded with the court to admit the defendant to bail in the most liberal terms, saying that the charge against her was bailable.
In her ruling, Chief Magistrate Fowowe-Ersiafe admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000,00 with two sureties in like sum, among others.
The Chief Magistrate ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Kirikiri female section of the NCoS facility, pending when she would meet the bail conditions.
The case has been adjourned until March 14, for trial.
The charge against Olalude reads: “That you, Folashade Olalude ‘F’ and others still at large, between 2015 and 2022 in Lagos within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit; demanding property with intent to steal and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
