•Tackles Media's Role in Nigeria's Trillion-Dollar Economy Dream
Former Director-General and CEO of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Dakuku Peterside, will deliver the keynote address at the 2026 Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Lagos State Council Annual Lecture, spotlighting the media's catalytic role in Nigeria's ambitious pursuit of a trillion-dollar economy.
Dr Peterside, well known as Nigeria's foremost authority on the blue economy and public policy, will specifically address the theme: ‘Politics, Ports and the Public Interest: The Media's Catalytic Role in Driving Economic Growth.’
The leadership architect and management turnaround expert is expected to interrogate the complex triangular relationship between ports as gateways to economic growth, political dynamics, and the media as a catalyst for national development.
At the heart of his address lies a provocative question: Can the media propel Nigeria toward a trillion-dollar economy?
Dr Peterside's distinguished career spans leadership, governance, public policy, and organisational transformation, positioning him to bring rare insight to the national discourse as he leads other distinguished speakers at the week-long event.
The Press Week runs from Monday, September 28 to Sunday, October 4, 2026, with the flagship annual lecture holding at 10:00 a.m. at the Radio Lagos/Eko FM Multipurpose Hall, LTV Complex, Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos.
In a statement signed by its chairman, the NUJ Lagos State Council urged journalists across the state to attend in large numbers and actively participate in the week's activities.
The Council emphasised that beyond celebration, the Press Week offers media practitioners a unique opportunity to network, exchange ideas, strengthen professional bonds, and honor journalists' contributions to societal growth and development.
