The management of Dangote Cement’s Ibese Plant has reinforced its dedication to its local content policy, seeking to boost the economies of 17 host communities through skill-building initiatives and greater opportunities for local businesses.
At a recent one-day capacity-building workshop for local vendors, themed ‘Leveraging DCPI's Processes and Procedures to Build Viable Local Businesses,’ Acting Ibese Plant Director, Mr Johnson Michael highlighted the company's commitment to fostering autonomous businesses within Ogun State.
Michael shared that, since the plant’s inception over ten years ago, Dangote Cement has positively impacted its host communities and is determined to continue supporting the region's economic resilience.
Held on-site at the Ibese Plant, the workshop gathered numerous local service providers and suppliers from nearby communities.
Michael emphasized that the event aimed to deepen vendors' understanding of best practices, unlock growth opportunities, improve efficiency, and reinforce safety and security standards.
According to Michael, this inaugural event at the Ibese Plant is a key component of Dangote Cement Plc's local content development strategy and exemplifies a strategic partnership with its host communities.
Designed to equip vendors with essential tools and insights, the workshop reflects the company’s commitment to sustainable development.
On behalf of the participating vendors, Deacon Segun Omoniyi of Abadom Commercial Enterprises thanked Dangote Cement for its investment in upskilling local businesses, noting that the skills gained would elevate service standards and operational efficiency.
The workshop was facilitated through collaboration among various departments, including Human Asset Management & Administration, Occupational Health, Safety and Environment, Procurement, Security Services, Stores, Finance & Accounts, and Social Performance.
In a separate initiative, the Ibese Plant recently donated agricultural supplies to support local farmers in the upcoming season.
Over 60 farmers from the host communities received fertilizers, herbicides, and knapsack sprayers, along with training on “Integrated Pest Management and Crop Protection.”
The plant’s support aims to strengthen food security, increase productivity, and enhance revenue along the local agricultural value chain.
The donations and training are part of Dangote Cement's Social Investment efforts, focused on Education, Health, Empowerment, and Infrastructure.
The company underscored that these contributions showcase its dedication to enhancing the well-being and economic prospects of its host communities, adding social value to the areas it serves.
