The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially suspended Rauf Aregbesola, former governor of Osun State, citing alleged anti-party activities.
This action follows a resolution passed by the Ilesa East Local Government Executive Committee of the APC, which has called for disciplinary proceedings against Aregbesola.
His suspension, the party stated, will remain in effect pending the outcome of these disciplinary actions.
In a statement sighted by journalists and addressed to APC National Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the Osun APC Executive Committee outlined the core accusations against Aregbesola.
They include creating factions within the party by establishing parallel structures, forming splinter groups, and collaborating with opposition parties to destabilize APC's standing in Osun State.
Additionally, the former governor was accused of making public remarks that were allegedly critical of senior party leaders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with whom Aregbesola was previously closely aligned.
The Ilesa East Executive Committee argued that the swift suspension of Aregbesola is a necessary step to restore discipline within the party and prevent other members from engaging in activities deemed detrimental to the APC.
Meanwhile, the Osun State APC Executive Committee has formally requested a response from Aregbesola to ensure that due process, as mandated by the party's constitution, is followed.
