National Museum, Lagos Unveils Upgraded Facilities After IHS Nigeria Partnership

Lagos, NigeriaIHS Nigeria, part of IHS Holding Limited (NYSE: IHS), one of the world’s largest independent owners and operators of shared communications infrastructure, has completed a comprehensive renovation and upgrade of facilities at the National Museum, Lagos, in partnership with the National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM).

The project was commissioned by the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa.

The renovation focused on the museum’s main gallery, home to iconic Nigerian artefacts including Nok terracotta, Benin Kingdom bronzes, and Ife classical works

Upgrades include modern display cases and museum-grade lighting, new air-conditioning units to protect sensitive antiquities, a solar inverter system to improve energy efficiency, and CCTV surveillance to strengthen security and operational monitoring.

The works have significantly enhanced the aesthetic appeal and structural integrity of the complex.

This initiative builds on IHS Nigeria’s earlier sponsorship of the museum’s digitization project, which launched Nigeria’s first digital museum of antiquities at www.museum.ng.

Mohamad Darwish, CEO, IHS Nigeria, said: “Having seen the rich historical and cultural heritage housed in this national museum complex, we believed it was important to go a step further after supporting the digital museum.

“Improving the aesthetics, security and structural integrity of the main physical complex aligns with our commitment to sustainable infrastructure and the preservation of Nigeria’s history.

“Visitors, from tourists to researchers and art enthusiasts, can now experience Nigeria’s heritage in an environment that is safe, beautiful, and welcoming, while the artefacts themselves are better preserved and presented.”

Olugbile Holloway, Director General, NCMM, added: “On behalf of the National Commission for Museums and Monuments, I express our deepest gratitude to IHS Nigeria.

“This landmark gesture goes far beyond bricks and mortar, it is a profound commitment to preserving the soul of our nation.

“To restore this institution is to restore our collective memory. Their support ensures that generations of Nigerians yet unborn will walk through these halls and encounter the full greatness of who we are and where we come from.”
