FirstBank, West Africa’s premier financial institution and leading financial inclusion service provider, has announced the confirmation of Olayinka Ijabiyi as its substantive Group Head, Marketing and Corporate Communications.
The appointment takes immediate effect and underscores the Bank’s commitment to strong corporate governance as it continues its ongoing growth and transformation agenda.
A veteran with over 25 years of experience, Ijabiyi brings extensive expertise in brand transformation, strategic visibility, and stakeholder engagement.
His career spans financial services, telecommunications, media, and international development.
Ijabiyi joined FirstBank in 2011 and has been serving in an acting capacity as Group Head, Marketing and Corporate Communications since December 2024. In his confirmed role, he will lead the development and execution of integrated marketing and corporate communications strategies across the Group’s markets.
His portfolio includes brand and reputation management, executive positioning, Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability, and strategic communications aligned with FirstBank’s business objectives.
Before this appointment, Ijabiyi held key leadership roles within FirstBank’s Marketing and Corporate Communications Department, including Head of Brand Strategy and Special Projects, Head of Digital Marketing, and Head of Brand and Stakeholder Management.
Before FirstBank, he built a distinguished career at leading organisations such as British Council, Multichoice, MTN, and Etisalat Nigeria, where he spearheaded brand building, corporate communications, and digital transformation initiatives.
He is credited with leading major brand campaigns, milestone anniversary programs, and brand refresh projects that enhanced brand equity and operational efficiency.
Ijabiyi holds a Master’s degree in Public and International Affairs from the University of Lagos and a Bachelor’s degree in English Language from the former Ondo State University, Ado Ekiti.
He is a Fellow of the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN) and a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).
