A socio-political group, Itsekiri Youths for Good Governance (IYGG), has called on former two-time President of the National Association of Itsekiri Graduates (NAIG), Prince Collins Oritsetimeyin Edema, to contest the Delta South Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
The call was contained in a statement jointly signed by the Delta South Coordinator of IYGG, Sam Oki Metsh, and the group’s Secretary, George Omatsuli, following what they described as a strategic leadership meeting.
According to the group, Prince Edema possesses the leadership qualities, technical competence and community-driven vision needed to effectively represent the diverse interests of the Delta South Senatorial District at the National Assembly.
The statement described Edema as a transformational leader whose track record in both the private sector and community service makes him a strong contender for the Red Chamber.
“Prince Edema is a transformational leader whose track record in both the private sector and community service makes him the ideal candidate to represent the interests of the district,” the group said.
The group noted that Delta South, which comprises the Itsekiri, Ijaw and Isoko ethnic nationalities, requires a representative who is not only trusted by the people but also has the diplomatic and technical capacity to attract development and deliver effective representation.
IYGG said its endorsement was driven by what it called Edema’s longstanding commitment to youth empowerment, human capital development and inclusive leadership.
“The leadership and members of Itsekiri Youths for Good Governance are calling on the ever-trustworthy, philanthropist and people-oriented leader, Prince Collins Oritsetimeyin Edema, to contest for the Senate. We have closely monitored your trajectory, and we are confident that you possess the capacity to lead our people effectively. Your vision for inclusivity is exactly what Delta South needs in 2027,” the statement added.
The youth group also highlighted Edema’s previous leadership roles, including his tenure as former President of the National Association of Itsekiri Students (NAIS) and former President of the National Association of Itsekiri Graduates (NAIG), describing them as evidence of his sustained investment in youth development and community advancement.
It further pointed to his role as the Sole Representative of the Olu of Warri to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), saying the position underscored his ability to manage complex community interests and advocate for grassroots benefits from the oil and gas sector.
A major plank of the endorsement, according to the group, is Edema’s perceived capacity to foster unity among the district’s major ethnic blocs and provide inclusive representation across Delta South.
The Delta South Senatorial District remains one of the most politically competitive constituencies in the country, and political observers believe the early endorsement by the youth group may signal the beginning of intense political alignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
