The 2025/26 Nigeria Women's Football League (NWFL) Premiership returned emphatically on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, as Matchday Five delivered a flurry of goals, four away victories and a standout individual performance across nine fixtures nationwide.
In Lagos, FC Robo Queens continued their flawless start to the season, edging debutants Ahudiyannem Queens 1–0 to record their fifth consecutive win — the longest active winning streak in the league.
Opeyemi Ajakaye stunned the visitors by scoring within seconds of kickoff, a strike that proved decisive as Robo tightened their grip at the top.
Ahudiyannem Queens, meanwhile, are still searching for their first victory in the Premiership.
Osun Babes claimed a vital away win in Iyahmo, defeating Confluence Queens 1–0 to compound the hosts’ difficult start to the campaign.
Naimot Kazeem’s 62nd-minute effort ensured maximum points for the visitors and boosted their mid-table push.
Former champions Rivers Angels delivered one of the most dominant performances of the round, thrashing Adamawa Queens 3–0 in Makwada. Forward Abasiofon Uwah stole the spotlight with a sensational second-half hat-trick, becoming the first player this season to score three goals in a single match.
In Ikenne, Nasarawa Amazons halted Remo Stars Ladies’ unbeaten run with a hard-fought 1–0 victory at the Remo Stars Stadium.
Ayatsea Hembafan’s early strike in the 11th minute, which ricocheted off the post before crossing the line, separated the two sides.
Abia Angels recorded a comfortable 2–0 win over Sunshine Queens, with Ekezie Onyedikachi and Winner David finding the net, while Delta Queens also secured a 2–0 home victory against Dannaz Ladies in Asaba through goals from Amarachukwu Onuorah and Rita Tsebee.
Defending champions Bayelsa Queens edged Ibom Angels 2–1 in a fiercely contested South-South derby.
First-half goals from Kesiena Ojiyovwi and Janet Akekeromowei proved enough despite a spirited second-half response from Helen David.
Elsewhere, Ekiti Queens, playing in Abeokuta, defeated Naija Ratels FC 1–0 thanks to Ismail Zainab’s 73rd-minute winner.
The only draw of the round came in Ibadan, where Pacesetter Queens and Heartland Queens played out a goalless stalemate.
As Matchday Five wraps up, early title contenders are beginning to assert themselves, while struggling sides face crucial weeks ahead in the increasingly competitive NWFL Premiership.
