Court Remands UK-Blogger Maureen Badejo in Kirikiri Over Alleged Defamation of Apostle Suleman

LAGOS, NigeriaJustice Akintayo Aluko of the Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the remand of popular UK-based blogger, Maureen Omorinola Badejo, at the Kirikiri facility of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS).

The order remains in effect pending the determination of her bail application.

The remand follows Badejo’s not guilty plea to an amended 2026 charge involving conspiracy and the transmission of defamatory statements via her social media platforms.

The case, prosecuted by the International Police (Interpol) unit of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (ForceCID), alleged that since November 2021, Badejo and others (currently at large) conspired to publish damaging content against Apostle Johnson Suleman and Dickson Osagie.

According to the prosecutor, Morufu Ajani Animashaun, the defendant used her YouTube and Facebook channels to level several grave accusations against the cleric, including sexual misconduct, alleging a relationship with a 14-year-old girl named Martha, claiming the Apostle possessed unlicensed guns and ammunition, portraying the cleric as a cultist, rapist, assassin, and ritualist, and publishing statements that allegedly placed both Apostle Suleman and Mr Osagie in fear of death or bodily harm.

The prosecution contended that these acts violate multiple sections of the Criminal Code Act and the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015

Specifically, the charges highlight the intentional transmission of false information designed to cause fear and reputational damage.

While Badejo’s legal team, led by Dr Owoeye and Emefo Etudo, moved for a bail application, the prosecution vehemently opposed it.

Animashaun labelled the blogger a “flight risk,” noting that she had been on a security watchlist for several years before her recent apprehension.

Justice Aluko, after hearing the submissions from both sides, adjourned the matter to March 16, 2026, for a ruling on the bail application.

Until then, Maureen Badejo will remain in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Services.
