LAGOS, NIGERIA – The Federal High Court in Lagos has scheduled July 6, 2026, for the commencement of the trial of Atoyebi Lateef Bamidele, a Bureau De Change (BDC) operator and politician popularly known as “Bam-Bam.”
Bamidele, who operates under the business name Prosocial International Limited, faces a multi-count charge involving conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence, and the alleged theft of N157.2 million.
The matter, which was brought before Justice Friday Ogazi on Monday, is beginning de novo (fresh) following the transfer of the previous presiding judge, Justice Abimbola Awogboro, to another division.
Bamidele was originally arraigned by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (ForceCID) Annex, Alagbon-Ikoyi, in September 2023.
According to the prosecution, led by S. O. Ayodele, the defendant allegedly collected N157,206,000 from a traders' representative, Mrs Priscilla Oyiowo, through an intermediary, Obinna Ozuah.
The funds were reportedly intended for conversion into United States Dollars between December 2022 and January 2023, a transaction the prosecution claimed was never completed.
The prosecution maintained that Bamidele’s actions contravene Sections 8(a) and 1(1)(c) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act, 2004, and Section 383 of the Criminal Code Act, punishable under Section 390(9) for the offence of stealing.
While the defendant has maintained a not guilty plea and remains out on bail, the case has seen several procedural shifts.
During Monday’s proceedings, the defence informed the court that Bamidele had paid N70 million toward the alleged debt and requested a short adjournment.
Justice Ogazi adjourned the matter to July 6, 2026, for a report on the trial's progress and the status of the alleged settlement.
