The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has denied allegations of attempting to extort N150 million from the Minister of Power, Mr Bayo Adelabu, in a spiritual dispute that has escalated into a petition before the Department of State Services (DSS).
The controversy stemmed from an exclusive media report detailing Adelabu's petition, which accused Primate Ayodele of requesting the Minister purchase approximately 1,000 trumpets, valued at an estimated N150 million, as a condition for securing his governorship ambition in Oyo State.
Adelabu reportedly claimed that his refusal to comply led to the prophet's subsequent public prophecy that he would fail to become the state’s governor.
However, in a statement released through his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Primate Ayodele delivered a counter-narrative, explicitly denying any attempt to extort the Minister.
The spiritual leader maintained that he never asked Adelabu to send money directly to him, clarifying that the request for the musical instruments was solely intended for the Minister's personal spiritual benefit.
Primate Ayodele explained that the Minister was the one who initiated the query regarding the cost of the instruments.
In response, the man of God said he gave him an estimate but insisted that Adelabu send someone from his team to the market to verify the prices, thereby ensuring transparency and precluding any direct financial transaction with the church.
The statement further revealed the significant pressure Ayodele was under, noting that Adelabu, his personal assistant, and another intermediary were pressurising him due to the Minister's “serious desperation” for the gubernatorial seat in Oyo State.
Primate Ayodele painted a picture of a politician seeking urgent spiritual succour. “I didn’t ask Bayo Adelabu to bring money for prayers, I told him to ask someone from his end to go to the market and find out how much the said trumpet cost, while someone follows them from my end too.
“His personal assistant, himself, and the person he sent to me put me under so much pressure because he was desperate for governorship,” the cleric stated.
He continued, detailing the Minister's eagerness: “He was the one who sent someone to me to talk to me on his behalf. He went as far as saying he was willing to give anything to become the next governor of Oyo State, and the only thing I told him was to get the trumpets for his own good.”
Ayodele elaborated on the core advice he provided to Adelabu, stating that he was told the political establishment would likely not grant him the governorship ticket.
To seek divine intervention, the only recommended course of action was to purchase the musical instruments for God, emphatically noting they were “not even for my church.”
The Minister, however, refused the spiritual counsel. Addressing the timing of the prophecy, Primate Ayodele explained that his pronouncements on Adelabu’s ambition long preceded their direct contact.
He asserted that he has consistently maintained for years that it would take God’s grace for Adelabu to become governor of Oyo State.
“I have been talking about how he won’t be made governor of Oyo State for years; this is why he called me to seek solutions. I have never spoken to him before until he sent people to me and personally requested my spiritual help," Ayodele stated, concluding firmly, "I don’t make prophecies to make money, I am blessed already, and my subsequent prophecies after our discussion about his ambition aren’t because he failed to buy the musical instrument, it can never be.”
