The administration of Hon. Olanrewaju Ayodeji Oyegbola-Sodipo (LOS) in Abeokuta North Local Government is setting a new benchmark for purposeful grassroots governance.
Through a strategic blend of infrastructure development, legislative reforms, and inclusive stakeholder engagement, the council is driving sustainable development across all sixteen wards and four major communities.
The administration recently celebrated a major milestone with the commissioning of several projects spanning education, healthcare, rural electrification, water supply, sanitation, and road infrastructure.
The initiative received high praise from the Ogun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat.
Representing the state government, Hamzat commended the council for its alignment with Governor Dapo Abiodun’s developmental vision, describing the projects as a practical demonstration of responsive governance.
In a move to institutionalise sustainable development, the Local Government has assented to the Abeokuta North Bye-Law on Livestock Grazing and Herders Registration.
This progressive law prohibits open grazing and mandates the compulsory registration of herders and livestock owners.
The legislation aims to mitigate farmer-herder conflicts, enhance public safety, and protect agricultural investments.
Recognising that policy success hinges on public buy-in, the council convened a comprehensive sensitisation programme.
Traditional rulers, security agencies, farmers, herders, market associations, and youth groups were educated on the new grazing laws, as well as regulations against indiscriminate waste disposal and illegal land encroachment.
Commenting on the initiatives, Hon. Oyegbola-Sodipo stated: “Development is not measured solely by the number of projects we execute.
“It is equally reflected in the institutions we build, the laws we enact, and the level of public understanding we create.
“Our approach is to carry our people along because lasting development requires a partnership between government and the people.”
He reaffirmed his commitment to policies that encourage investment, public health, and environmental sustainability, extending appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Dapo Abiodun for their support of local government autonomy.
