Primate Ayodele Clarifies 'Curse' Prophecy Amid Misinterpretation of Igbo Presidency Stance

The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has moved to clarify a recent prophetic statement regarding the chances of an Igbo person becoming Nigeria’s president, which he says has been grossly misunderstood and misinterpreted.

Weeks ago, the influential prophet released a video suggesting a curse was actively blocking the path for the Igbo region to produce the nation's leader again.

He warned that the presidency would continue to elude the region unless they were cleansed of this spiritual affliction, regardless of the strength of its candidates.

In the wake of this prophecy, reports began to circulate in some quarters that the statement was a clear expression of Primate Ayodele’s opposition to an Igbo presidency, or even a demonstration of hatred for the tribe.

In an official clarification signed by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Primate Ayodele firmly rejected the accusations of tribal bias.

He emphasised that his initial comments were intended as a prophetic warning and a solution-oriented direction, not a political attack or a means to sabotage the region's ambitions.

“I have observed that my message about a curse affecting the chances of the Igbos for their presidential ambition has been grossly misunderstood and misinterpreted.

“In some quarters, it’s been perceived as my hatred for the tribe and my support for the current administration,” the statement read.

The cleric insisted that he has no hatred for any tribe, pointing out the diverse ethnic makeup of his congregation as evidence of his non-segregational ministry.

“I love everyone regardless of their tribe, and this is why my church has a mixture of several tribes and ethnic groups because we don’t segregate; we treat everyone respectfully, regardless of what they represent,” he stated.

Primate Ayodele maintained that if he were truly against the Igbo presidency, he would not be offering the spiritual directions and solutions that he makes available to all, as revealed to him by God.

He stressed that his prophecy was fundamentally aimed at providing a path forward.

“My statement about the Igbo curse is more of a solution towards getting the presidency than what it’s been perceived to be,” he clarified.

He issues warnings so that “if well followed, they will definitely provide solutions to whatever problems it was issued for.”

The prophet expressed disappointment that the public discourse had fixated on misinterpretation rather than the practical implications of his message.

He stated that the appropriate response should have been inquiries into how to take off the curse" in preparation for the upcoming 2027 presidential election.

“I am not against Igbo presidency, and this is why I shared the secret of cleansing the tribe of the curse that has been blocking their progress regarding the presidency," Ayodele reiterated.

He concluded that he had delivered the message as instructed by God, providing both the warning and the solution, and that it is now “left for them to either follow or reject it.”
