The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officially declared Lagos-based real estate mogul, Olasijibomi Ogundele, the CEO of Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited, wanted over alleged cases of diversion of funds and money laundering.
The announcement, made via a wanted notice signed by the EFCC's Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, sent shockwaves through Nigeria's high-end property market.
The notice, shared on the anti-graft agency’s official X handle on Friday, called on the public to provide credible information on Ogundele’s whereabouts.
This development marks an escalation in the alleged controversies that have swirled around the flamboyant real estate developer and his company, known for their multi-billion-naira luxury projects in exclusive areas like Ikoyi and Banana Island.
While the EFCC has yet to disclose the full details or the specific amount allegedly misappropriated, the declaration suggests an investigation is underway.
This is not the first time Ogundele has faced legal scrutiny. In late 2024, he was reportedly detained and later released on bail by the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID) in Abuja.
That case stemmed from a petition by a human rights lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, who accused Ogundele of obtaining $325,000 under false pretences from an individual for a property that was never delivered.
In a video that surfaced on social media following the EFCC's declaration, Ogundele denied the allegations, vowing to present himself to the commission to clear his name.
He attributed the current predicament to a stalled contract between his company and the Enugu State Government, claiming that inflation and rising costs had hampered the project's completion.
"I'm not a thief, I'm not a fugitive," he stated in the video, lamenting that the wanted notice had "destroyed" his company.
