Lagos Secures Sponsorships for Africa's First All-Electric Powerboat Race

The E1 Lagos GP is set to make history as the first all-electric powerboat race on African waters, and it has secured a line up of sponsors, with First Bank of Nigeria leading the charge as the Presenting Partner.

The announcement was made during a Stakeholder Immersion Session at the LASWA Yard, Falomo Jetty, a critical event designed to ensure all stakeholders are united in promoting Lagos's new global identity as a hub for innovation and sustainability.

Scheduled to electrify the Lagos Lagoon from October 2–5, 2025, the E1 Lagos GP is more than just a race; it is a profound statement about Lagos's readiness to champion a sustainable future.

According to Mr Samuel Egube, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor and Chairman of the E1 Lagos GP Local Organising Committee (LOC), the partnerships signify a collective promise to uphold “clarity, professionalism, and integrity” in how the state tells its story on the world stage.

First Bank of Nigeria, a cornerstone of the nation’s financial landscape for over 130 years, is taking on the role of Presenting Partner.

Mr Olayinka Ijabiyi, Group Head, Marketing and Corporate Communications at First Bank, emphasised the perfect alignment between the bank’s long-standing legacy of supporting development and this groundbreaking event.

“We are delighted to support a project that not only showcases sport at its finest but also emphasises sustainability and youth engagement,” he stated.

The sponsorship roster reflects a diverse and influential group of brands committed to Lagos's vision.

Alongside First Bank, the E1 Lagos GP welcomes Oando, Spiro, Sunbeth, and the Tolaram Group, which brings major international brands like Guinness Stout, Johnnie Walker, and The Singleton to the partnership.

These collaborations underscore a shared belief in Lagos's potential to host world-class events that inspire and create a lasting positive impact.

Mr Gbenga Omotosho, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, reiterated the event's broader significance.

“The E1 Lagos GP is more than a sporting event; it is a statement of Lagos’ readiness to lead Africa into a sustainable future, where innovation and culture meet global standards,” he said.
