LAGOS, NIGERIA — In a major stride toward reinforcing Africa’s industrial self-sufficiency, Dangote Cement Plc has inducted nearly 200 newly trained engineers and professionals into its global workforce.
The induction, which took place over the weekend in Lagos, follows the successful conclusion of an intensive 18-month Graduate Trainee Programme.
The latest cohort of trainees comprises specialists from diverse fields, including engineering, finance, and information technology.
Their journey involved a rigorous 18-month curriculum that blended theoretical classroom instruction at the Dangote Academy with hands-on technical immersion across the company's four Nigerian plant locations and its corporate headquarters.
This structured development path is designed to groom high-potential professionals for future leadership roles through cross-functional exposure and executive mentorship.
According to the company, many of these graduates have already been integrated into critical operations across Nigeria and other pan-African territories, ensuring that the next generation of African industrial leaders is built from within.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Managing Director and CEO of Dangote Cement Plc, Mr Arvind Pathak, lauded the resilience of the workforce.
He noted that despite a challenging global and local operating environment in 2025, the company maintained a dominant market position.
“Despite the economic turbulence, your resilience, and tenacity enabled us to overcome numerous challenges.
“Your commitment has helped us retain our position as the dominant player in the cement sector, not only in Nigeria but across Africa,” Pathak stated.
Pathak further revealed the company’s roadmap, stating that Dangote Cement is on a strategic path to reach a production capacity of 90 million metric tonnes per annum across the continent by 2030.
He emphasised that this collective determination has already transformed Nigeria from a cement importer into a net exporter, providing a blueprint for industrialisation across West Africa.
The event also served as a platform to honour veteran employees through the Long Service Awards and the Hall of Fame Employee Awards.
Staff members who have demonstrated at least five years of consistent dedication to the company's core values, customer focus, entrepreneurship, excellence, and leadership, received substantial monetary rewards and public recognition.
A highlight of the induction was the recognition of four exceptional graduate trainees who displayed outstanding hands-on industrial competence.
They are: Engr. Mary Nnana, Engr. Ahmad Sunusi Abdullahi, Engr. Ahmed Rufai Ahmed, and Engr. Ebenezer Afonja.
These young engineers were instrumental in high-impact projects, including the installation of MIS servers at the Obajana Plant and the deployment of cement mill optimisation systems at both the Obajana and Okpella facilities.
Their technical contributions ranged from preheater fan dynamic balancing to the development of sophisticated tracking templates for Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
The Acting Group Human Resources Officer, Mr Ahmed Ladan Gobir, described the programme as a strategic investment in the nation's youth.
“Nigeria’s greatest asset is its young people,” Gobir remarked. “At Dangote Cement, we are deliberate about empowering them with the skills and opportunities required to succeed on a global stage,” he added.
