The National Industrial Court sitting in Abuja has issued an interim order stopping the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) from continuing its nationwide strike against the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE.
Presiding Judge, Justice Emmanuel Sublim, granted the order on Monday following an ex parte application filed by the refinery’s counsel, Mr George Ibrahim, SAN.
The court ruled that the strike, aimed at halting crude oil and gas supplies to the refinery, could cause serious harm to the nation’s economy.
Justice Sublim emphasised the importance of preserving the status quo pending the hearing of the substantive motion.
In addition, the court restrained key regulatory agencies, including the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), from enforcing any directives by PENGASSAN that would disrupt operations.
The judge ordered that the restraining order and court processes be promptly served on all defendants.
The case has been adjourned to October 13 for the hearing of the motion on notice.
