NUJ Applauds Dangote Refinery for Fuel Price Reduction, Calls for More Industrial Empathy

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, has lauded Dangote Refinery for its continued reduction in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), describing the move as a welcome relief amid Nigeria’s ongoing economic hardship.

In a statement reacting to the latest slash in the ex-depot price of PMS from ₦880 to ₦865 per litre, NUJ Lagos Chairman, Mr Adeleye Ajayi, praised the refinery's management for its commitment to easing the burden on Nigerians.

He noted that the company has consistently demonstrated a people-first approach that positions it as a critical partner in the nation’s development.

“Dangote Refinery is indeed a blessing to all Nigerians. The rollout of petroleum products has liberalised the fuel market and brought much-needed competition.”

Ajayi attributed the price reduction to a drop in global crude oil prices and urged other industrialists to emulate the Dangote Group’s empathetic approach.

“In the past few months, we’ve seen consistent drops in the cost of PMS, thanks to Dangote. If we had more business leaders like him across sectors, Nigeria’s economic transformation would be significantly accelerated,” he added.

The NUJ Chairman also welcomed the Federal Executive Council’s recent approval for the full implementation of the suspended Naira-for-Crude policy.

He expressed optimism that the initiative would further enhance local refining and improve living standards for ordinary Nigerians.

Ajayi emphasised that the partnership between government policies and responsible private sector actions, like that of Dangote Refinery, was essential in building public trust and driving national progress.
