In a move set to bring relief to Nigerian consumers and spark positive economic ripple effects, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a second reduction in petrol prices within a week. Effective Wednesday, April 16, 2025, the gantry price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, has been reduced from N865 to N835.
This price adjustment means retail customers across various regions will now access petrol at significantly lower rates. In Lagos, major distribution partners such as MRS, AP (Ardova), Heyden, Optima Energy, Hyde, and Techno Oil will offer petrol at N890 per litre, down from N920. The South-West region will see prices drop to N900 per litre from N930, while consumers in the North-West and North-Central zones will now pay N910, down from N940. The South-East, South-South, and North-East regions will benefit from a reduction to N920 per litre from the previous N950.
"This price cut underscores our unwavering commitment to providing Nigerians with high-quality petroleum products at affordable prices," said Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer at Dangote Group.
The refinery, which began local fuel supply operations earlier this year, has been praised for its role in stabilising fuel prices. In February, Dangote Petroleum Refinery implemented two notable price cuts of N125 each. Diesel and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) have also seen major reductions, thanks to the refinery’s drive to enhance local energy security and affordability.
Industry analysts expect this new price drop to ease pressure on transportation costs, boost small businesses, and support overall economic growth—particularly during the Easter season when energy demand typically spikes.
Dangote Petroleum Refinery continues to position itself as a key player in Nigeria’s energy sector, maintaining sufficient fuel reserves to meet local demand and export needs. The refinery is also calling on marketers and distributors to align with its pricing structure and ensure that the benefits of these reductions reach consumers across all regions.
“With this latest initiative, we aim not only to ease the burden on everyday Nigerians but also to contribute to broader economic stability and growth,” Chiejina added.
The Dangote Group reaffirmed its commitment to a sustainable supply of premium petroleum products and encouraged industry collaboration to ensure nationwide impact.
