For about two years, the political atmosphere in Rivers State under the administration of Governor Sim Fubara has been tense due to the ongoing crisis between the governor and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
In summary, both leaders are locked in a power tussle over control of the state, which has significantly affected power structures, particularly the State House of Assembly and local government councils.
At the height of the crisis, the House of Assembly, reportedly acting on the orders of Nyesom Wike, attempted to impeach the governor. However, Fubara, through the courts, managed to dissolve the Martin Amaewhule-led assembly, which included about 27 lawmakers, because they had unconstitutionally defected from the PDP to the APC. Similarly, local government chairmen who sought an extension of their tenure were removed from office following local government elections held across the state.
However, in a landmark judgment last week, the Supreme Court reinstated the Martin Amaewhule-led assembly and ruled that the local government election was unconstitutional, thereby sacking the elected chairmen.
The unfolding political events in Rivers State since 2023 have reinforced the credibility of Nigerian prophet Primate Elijah Ayodele, who had foretold in 2022 that Nyesom Wike and his successor would engage in a bitter conflict — even when their relationship appeared strong at the time.
While politics is known for its lack of permanent friendships, the battle between Nyesom Wike and Sim Fubara remains one of Nigeria’s most unpredictable political crises. Yet, Primate Ayodele accurately predicted it long before it happened. Even after the conflict erupted, he continued to provide insights into how it would unfold, many of which are now playing out in Rivers State.
One of his most significant prophecies came in a video released in April 2024, when Sim Fubara appeared to be gaining the upper hand against his former boss. In the video, Primate Ayodele warned that if Fubara did not handle the situation carefully, he would end up losing everything.
He also predicted that the crisis would escalate into a militant-style confrontation, leading to bloodshed in the state. Furthermore, he cautioned that the Supreme Court’s ruling might not favour Fubara, posing a serious threat to his position as governor.
These were his exact words:
"In Rivers State, we will see two factions—Wike’s and Fubara’s—confronting each other. Fubara’s political steps in Rivers will escalate into a militant-style fight. I foresee a bloodbath in Rivers State. The upcoming Supreme Court ruling on this Fubara matter might not favour him, and I can tell you this: at the end of the day, there will be a threat to Fubara's removal. When the time comes, you will remember this day."

Just as Primate Ayodele predicted, Rivers State is now on the brink of violent conflict between the two political factions.
Yesterday, viral videos showed militant groups threatening the House of Assembly with consequences if they attempted to impeach Fubara. Asari Dokubo, a well-known ex-militant, was also seen in videos warning of violent repercussions if anyone tried to remove Fubara from office.
Likewise, as Primate Ayodele foresaw, the Supreme Court ruling did not favour Fubara. At present, the House of Assembly has issued multiple threats against the governor, suggesting that new impeachment moves may be underway.
Without a doubt, Primate Ayodele’s prophecies regarding Rivers State politics continue to unfold exactly as he predicted.
