Heavily armed policemen and operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) have surrounded the Kano Emir’s Palace at Kofar Kudu, effectively restricting entry and exit from the premises.
This heightened security comes amid a brewing conflict over the installation of the newly appointed Wamban Kano, the District Head of Bichi, by Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II.
Simultaneously, the Bichi Emir’s Palace has also been placed under tight security, with armed personnel stationed to maintain order.
Reliable sources suggest that the deployment is part of ongoing disputes regarding the leadership and recognition of the Bichi Emirate.
The controversy stems from a recent move by Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to invalidate the five Kano Emirate Councils, effectively stripping the Emirs of their positions.
This decision followed the enactment of the Kano Emirate Council Law, which reshaped the traditional hierarchy.
Despite this, the state government has since appointed three Second-Class Emirs, notably excluding Bichi.
This exclusion has added to the uncertainty surrounding the future of the Bichi Emirate, which is currently led by Emir Nasiru Ado Bayero.
Adding fuel to the conflict, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, recently reiterated his stance in Bichi, declaring the legitimacy of the Bichi Emirate Council and reaffirming Emir Nasiru Ado Bayero's position.
