A Warri-based legal firm, Robinson Ariyo & Co, has raised serious allegations against Tantita Security Services Limited (TSSL), a private security company owned by former Niger Delta militant, Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo.
The firm, in a letter addressed to President Bola Tinubu, accused TSSL of stockpiling small, medium, and heavy firearms, which it claims violate the company’s security mandate and pose significant risks to national and regional peace.
The petition, signed by Chief Robinson Ariyo, also copied Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
It called on President Tinubu to establish a panel of inquiry to investigate the operations of Tantita Security Services Limited.
According to the letter, the petitioners, acting on behalf of the Concerned Itsekiri Communities Organization and affiliate bodies in Warri North, Warri South-West, and Warri South Local Government Areas of Delta State, accused Tantita of being involved in “illegal and life-threatening activities,” including arms stockpiling, land grabbing, and human rights violations.
The letter further stated: “The proliferation of small, medium, and heavy arms in the hands of private actors in Warri coastal areas — comprising Warri, Warri South, Warri South-West, and Warri North local government areas of Delta State — is alarming.”
The petitioners also alleged incidents of “usurpation, encroachment, and illegal renaming” of Itsekiri homelands by the Ijaw with the support of violent actors.
They urged President Tinubu to act swiftly by launching an investigation that could lead to prosecution where necessary.
The legal firm expressed its hope that the federal government would take decisive steps to ensure peace and security in the region, emphasizing that unchecked proliferation of arms and territorial disputes threaten not only Nigeria’s stability but also that of West Africa.
President Tinubu is yet to respond to the petition as of press time.
