Nestlé Nigeria is reaffirming its dedication to empowering young Nigerians through its Community Scholarship Program, which is now open for applications.
This annual scholarship initiative, aimed at senior secondary and tertiary students from host communities around Nestlé's operations, specifically targets those pursuing studies in Science and Technology.
Through this program, Nestlé supports high-achieving students, ensuring they have the financial resources needed to excel in their educational journey.
Since its launch in 2020, the Community Scholarship Program has become a critical source of financial support for students in communities near Nestlé’s facilities.
Covering expenses such as tuition, accommodation, uniforms, books, and other essentials, the scholarship helps relieve families of significant financial burdens, making quality education more accessible.
In this latest round, 90 eligible students will receive scholarships totalling N18 million.
The application portal opens on November 5, 2024, and will close on December 8, 2024.
Speaking on the significance of the program, Victoria Uwadoka, Nestlé Nigeria’s Corporate Communications, Public Affairs, and Sustainability Lead, highlighted the company's commitment to creating shared value, linking Nestlé’s success to the well-being of the communities it serves.
“These scholarships reflect our unwavering dedication to investing in the future of our youth,” Uwadoka said.
“At a time when economic challenges place added strain on families nationwide, we’re proud to provide meaningful financial support that eases this burden. By investing in education, we’re not only empowering individual students but also fostering the growth and prosperity of our entire community,” she added.
The announcement came during the recent award ceremony for the 2023/2024 scholarship recipients.
During the event, 65 students from Abaji, Agbara, and Sagamu were presented with scholarships, each student a testament to the program’s far-reaching impact.
Adeyemi Gbenga Daniel, a beneficiary studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Lagos, expressed his gratitude, saying, "This scholarship empowers us to pursue our dreams, fuels our passion for learning, and helps us explore opportunities that might have otherwise been unreachable.”
Traditional leaders from these communities also commended Nestlé for its continuous investment in youth and education.
Representatives of the Ona of Abaji, the Alagbara of Agbara, and the Akarigbo of Remo Land praised Nestlé Nigeria for fulfilling its promises and creating positive changes within their communities. The chiefs emphasized the transformative power of Nestlé’s Creating Shared Value (CSV) initiatives, which span beyond education to broader youth empowerment and community development.
As the scholarship program continues, Nestlé remains committed to nurturing talent and fostering academic excellence.
Through its investment in young Nigerians, the company hopes to inspire the next generation of leaders, innovators, and skilled professionals.
By investing in the education of young people, Nestlé Nigeria not only promotes individual growth but also contributes to building stronger, more resilient communities, helping to shape a brighter future for the nation.
