In a brief yet significant ceremony at the State House on Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu officially decorated the Acting Chief of Army Staff, Major General Olufemi Oluyede, elevating him to the rank of Lieutenant General.
The ceremony took place in the President’s office complex, underscoring the administration’s commitment to strong military leadership and continuity during a period of high-security demands.
The promotion comes following Oluyede’s recent appointment as the acting Chief of Army Staff, a role he assumed last Wednesday in light of the ongoing medical leave of his predecessor, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja.
Lagbaja has been indisposed for several weeks, prompting President Tinubu to select Oluyede, a seasoned officer with extensive field experience, to fill the leadership gap.
A brief statement from the President’s communications team highlighted the importance of the occasion.
It read, "President Tinubu decorates acting Chief of Army Staff, Oluyede, as Lt. General,” indicating the government’s intention to fortify the army’s upper ranks as it tackles pressing security challenges across Nigeria.
With his new rank, Lieutenant General Oluyede is expected to continue leading the Nigerian Army, addressing the dynamic security landscape and supporting the administration's broader objectives to secure the nation.
