Akure, Ondo State – A major legal confrontation is brewing in Ondo State as the Ikale nationality, led by their Paramount Ruler, Oba G. B. Faduyile has filed fresh lawsuits against the state's Property and Anti-Land Grabbing Task Force.
The monarch and one of his appointed chiefs are accusing the agency, headed by the state’s Attorney General, Olukayode Ajulo (SAN), of unconstitutionally interfering with a valid High Court judgment and harassing traditional authorities.
The legal battle centers on a 2019 Ondo State High Court judgment delivered by the State Chief Judge, Justice O. O. Akeredolu, in suit number HOR/2/2004.
That ruling affirmed the traditional and administrative authority of the Abodi of Ikale Land over Kajola community and seven other towns and villages.
In a new suit filed at the State High Court, Oba Faduyile is seeking an order to bar the anti-land-grabbing Task Force and its agents from interfering with his legal exercise of traditional authority over the communities.
The monarch is also asking the court to declare that the Task Force lacks the constitutional power to review, sit in appeal over, or block the execution of a High Court judgment.
In a related development, Chief Kehinde Oloruntobi Maiyegun, a representative appointed by the Paramount Ruler to oversee Kajola Community, has instituted a separate suit at the Federal High Court, Akure.
The suit, filed on September 26, 2026, seeks the enforcement of his fundamental human rights against harassment and restrictions on freedom of movement by the agency.
Chief Maiyegun's legal troubles, according to court documents, began after the agency invited him for questioning based on a petition by one Mr Tayo Kolawole.
The petition alleged a threat to life and wilful damage to property on land that Chief Maiyegun claims is under his jurisdiction, land previously won by the Abodi in the 2019 judgment.
The chief alleges that Kolawole had trespassed on the land by cutting down an economic tree, leading to his arrest by the Kajola Police.
Despite his lawyer, Mr Agbor Akamba, filing a counter-petition arguing that the Task Force lacks jurisdiction to review a High Court judgment, the agency has reportedly issued another invitation for Chief Maiyegun to appear on October 20.
Chief Maiyegun is also seeking protection from Mr Kolawole, whom he alleges is working in concert with the Task Force to harass him and hinder his authority over the vested landed property.
While no dates have been fixed for hearings, all relevant parties, including the State Attorney General, have been served with the legal papers.
