The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has called for the support of both Nigerians and the government for Dangote Refinery to enable it to perform optimally.
They emphasized that such support would also serve as an impetus for other investors to explore opportunities in the downstream sector of Nigeria’s petroleum industry.
The President of MAN, Otunba Francis Meshioye, made this appeal after a tour of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, Petrochemical Complex, and Fertilizer Plant.
He urged Nigerians and the government to fully back the multi-billion-dollar enterprise, describing it as a source of pride and a remarkable gift not only to Nigeria but also to Africa and the world at large.
Meshioye hailed the Dangote Refinery as a game-changer in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, noting that it creates jobs, drives economic growth, and contributes significantly to the country’s energy security and self-sufficiency.
According to him, the project is highly inspiring, just as he commended the vision of its promoter, Aliko Dangote.
He remarked: “To have been inspired to establish this facility is magnificent.
“It is the first of its kind in Africa and a pioneer in the global refinery landscape. It holds many firsts.”
The refinery, he noted, has the capacity to meet all of Nigeria’s petroleum needs locally, eliminating dependency on imports.
He added: “No one would visit this facility and not feel inspired to support it in every way possible.”
Meshioye urged the government to take every necessary step to ensure the facility operates optimally.
“It is prudent and expedient that the required support is given to this company for the economic benefit of Nigeria.
“If the facility can process 650,000 barrels of crude per day and Nigeria is producing far more than this, the government should ensure it gets all the crude it needs to operate efficiently,” he added.
He also emphasized the economic benefits of exporting surplus production, which would generate foreign exchange for the country.
“The facility can cater to local needs and also produce excess for export.
“This will not only strengthen our economy but also boost our foreign exchange reserves.”
Highlighting the advanced technology of the refinery, Meshioye said, “The laboratory here is in a class of its own, a leader among global standards.
“The quality control and assurance measures ensure that harmful effects of products are eliminated.
“What can surpass this level of commitment to excellence? This is truly unique.”
He called on all stakeholders to provide “maximum support” for the refinery, stating, “This is not just an ordinary facility. It has the capacity to deliver products through 1,760 to 1,800 trucks daily.
“The ripple effects on the economy are immense—job creation, improved livelihoods, and benefits for artisans and other sectors.”
He further noted that the production of diesel (AGO), gasoline, and Jet A fuel by the refinery is a significant milestone.
“The government should have no reason not to back this facility fully, given the massive benefits it brings to Nigeria,” he posited.
As an advocacy group, MAN, he said, would support the Dangote Refinery by engaging the government and relevant agencies to ensure it operates at full capacity.
“The association consistently engages with the government on issues affecting its members, and we always find solutions. Dangote Refinery’s case will be no different,” he said.
Meshioye also praised the refinery’s ambition and scale, describing it as a testament to innovation, technology, and investment.
“The success of this project serves as an inspiration to the manufacturing sector. It shows what can be achieved when we pursue bold visions with determination,” he added.
