The leadership of the Nigeria Online Media Alliance (NOMA) has commended Polaris Bank for its strategic support towards training journalists on drug abuse prevention and responsible reporting.
The NOMA delegation, led by its Chairperson, Theresa Moses, paid a courtesy visit to Polaris Bank's corporate headquarters in Lagos on Friday to express appreciation to the financial institution for partnering with the alliance to host its Media Practitioners' Capacity Building Workshop.
The workshop was organised to commemorate the 2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
Mr Rasheed Bolarinwa, Group Head, Brand Management and Corporate Communications, Polaris Bank, received the NOMA team.
During the visit, NOMA presented an appreciation plaque to Polaris Bank in recognition of its commitment to promoting responsible journalism, youth development, financial literacy, and advocacy against social vices.
Speaking at the meeting, NOMA Chairperson, Theresa Moses, thanked the bank's management for believing in the alliance's vision of using the media as a tool for positive social change.
According to Moses, "Your commitment to youth development, financial literacy, and responsible media advocacy is sincerely appreciated. Your support contributed significantly to the success of our capacity-building workshop for journalists."
She stressed that tackling drug abuse in Nigeria requires a multi-sectoral approach involving the media, corporate organisations, government agencies, and civil society organisations to curb substance abuse among young people.
According to her, NOMA looks forward to deepening its partnership with Polaris Bank on future advocacy campaigns, media development programmes, youth empowerment initiatives, and other nation-building projects.
Responding, Mr Rasheed Bolarinwa commended NOMA for leading advocacy against drug abuse, describing the scourge as a time bomb that threatens the future of Nigerian youth.
In his words: "Drug abuse in our society is a time bomb, and any organisation or group that has taken it upon itself to champion advocacy to address this social issue deserves to be appreciated.
“Almighty God will continue to strengthen you so that you can continue this wonderful work of helping society confront this challenge."
Other members of the NOMA delegation present at the courtesy visit were Mr Oluwatosin Simon Faleye, Mr Dennis Okosun, and Mr Eric Elezuo.
