Abuja, Nigeria – The United States government has successfully evacuated Tigran Gambaryan, a former Binance executive, from Nigeria following his release from detention.
Gambaryan had been held at the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja on money laundering charges.
The US National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, confirmed the evacuation, stating that it was facilitated through "less confrontational" diplomatic discussions between the US and Nigerian governments.
A specially equipped medical aircraft was dispatched to Nigeria to transport Gambaryan back to the US for necessary medical care.
The charges against Gambaryan and Binance were dropped by the Nigerian authorities on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.
The sudden release and subsequent evacuation have sparked international intrigue, with many speculating on the underlying reasons for the swift resolution of the case.
