In a recently surfaced video, former Niger Delta militant leader Asari Dokubo has accused Nigerian President Bola Tinubu of betrayal and neglect, claiming he received no recognition despite his support in Tinubu’s 2023 presidential campaign.
Dokubo revealed that he spent his personal funds to back Tinubu's candidacy, only to be allegedly abandoned once the election concluded.
Expressing disappointment, Dokubo distanced himself from Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections and announced plans to form an alliance with Northern leaders.
“From today, I will work and create an alliance with the North,” Dokubo said in the video, noting that he intends to mobilize support for this new coalition.
He emphasized his belief that “Only the Northerners can work with the Ijaw people,” signaling a shift in his political allegiance.
Despite his discontent, Dokubo maintained a complex stance, asserting he still considers himself a supporter of Tinubu while being frustrated with what he described as neglect. His statements have ignited widespread discussion online, sparking reactions from Nigerians and raising questions about potential shifts in the country's political alliances as it approaches the next election cycle.
