Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) and Corporate Accountability (CA) in the United States have announced the launch of the Africa Make Big Polluters Pay (MBBP) Storytelling Platform, set to go live on October 28.
This unique digital space aims to elevate the voices of African communities facing the brunt of climate change impacts and corporate exploitation.
The MBBP Storytelling Platform, designed as a “virtual fireplace,” will allow frontline communities and regional partners to come together in a monthly digital gathering.
Here, they will share their stories of resilience, struggle, and hope, spotlighting the environmental and social costs of extractive industries on the continent.
This new platform seeks to reveal the far-reaching impacts of transnational corporate activities, debunk false solutions, and support sustainable alternatives in Africa.
“This platform is essential. It provides clear evidence and strengthens demands for reparative compensation that addresses both economic and non-economic losses suffered by frontline communities,” said Akinbode Oluwafemi, CAPPA’s Executive Director.
The launch event will include screenings of documentary snippets from Ayetoro, presentations on using media to spotlight African climate issues, and solidarity messages from the Make Big Polluters Pay partners.
Key speakers at the hybrid event include climate leaders from Nigeria, Togo, Liberia, Ghana, and Uganda, with attendees able to join both in-person and online.
