A mass burial was held on Wednesday for more than 140 victims of the tragic petrol tanker explosion that occurred in Majiya town, Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The sombre event saw tears flowing as families and community members laid the victims to rest.
Meanwhile, around 90 other victims are currently receiving treatment for severe injuries in various hospitals across the state, still suffering the effects of the disaster.
The explosion took place late Tuesday night when a tanker driver, travelling from Kano to Nguru in Yobe State, lost control near Khadija University, Majiya.
The tanker, which had set off from Kano, overturned and then exploded after the loss of control.
According to the police, the tragedy was made worse when residents rushed to the scene to collect spilt petrol from the overturned tanker.
“The residents were scooping fuel from the overturned tanker when the explosion occurred, sparking a massive inferno that killed 94 people on the spot,” stated DSP Lawan Adam, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Jigawa State Command.
