Sanwo-Olu Announces N85,000 Minimum Wage for Lagos State Workers

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced that the state will implement a new minimum wage of N85,000 for its workers.

This amount is N15,000 higher than the N70,000 minimum wage approved by the Federal Government in July.

The federal minimum wage increase came after President Bola Tinubu signed the N70,000 minimum wage bill into law, following months of negotiations between government officials, labour unions, and the private sector.

Speaking as a guest on Channels Television's ‘Politics Today’ on Wednesday, Sanwo-Olu clarified that Lagos State's decision to pay N85,000 is not intended to surpass other states, but rather because the state has the financial capacity to provide this higher wage.
