Shehu Sani, a former senator who represented Kaduna Central in Nigeria's 8th National Assembly, has criticized the World Bank, suggesting that it is prolonging Nigeria's economic hardship.
In a statement shared on his official X account on Wednesday, Sani claimed that the World Bank aims to extend Nigeria's current difficulties for another 15 years before the country reaches economic stability, which he referred to as the “promised land.”
Sani questioned the World Bank's approach, writing, “The World Bank wants the hardship to extend to the next fifteen years before we can reach the promised land.
“I don’t know how many people will be remaining at that time to enjoy the fruits of the WB in its promised land.
“The question is, how many African countries have the World Bank taken to the promised land?”
His remarks follow a recent statement from the World Bank, which highlighted that the Nigerian Naira was one of the worst-performing currencies in sub-Saharan Africa as of the end of August 2024.
