The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has issued an official statement to clarify its position regarding recent reports suggesting that the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has made payments to the refinery for the purchase of refined petroleum products.
Dangote Refinery firmly denied these claims, stating that it has not received any payments from IPMAN members and currently has no direct business arrangements with the association.
The refinery, in a statement released by Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer Anthony Chiejina, acknowledged ongoing discussions with IPMAN but emphasized that reports of difficulties faced by IPMAN members in loading refined products from Dangote Refinery are unfounded.
The refinery attributed any such payment issues to transactions conducted through the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), rather than Dangote itself.
Chiejina elaborated that the payments in question were made through the NNPCL, which has neither authorized nor approved the release of Dangote’s Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to IPMAN.
He clarified that this lack of approval indicates no responsibility on the part of Dangote Refinery for any transaction between NNPCL and IPMAN.
Reaffirming its commitment to meeting Nigeria's petroleum needs, Dangote Refinery highlighted its extensive capacity to load up to 2,900 trucks per day and transport products by sea.
The refinery encouraged IPMAN to register directly and make payments with Dangote to avoid third-party complications, stressing that it has ample supplies of petrol, diesel, and aviation fuel available to meet the needs of IPMAN’s members and the wider market.
In addition, the statement called on all industry stakeholders to avoid disseminating misleading information that could disrupt Nigeria’s ongoing economic reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The refinery’s message underscored that public speculation and unfounded claims are not only counterproductive but also unpatriotic, potentially hindering progress in national economic re-engineering.
Urging collaboration, the refinery advised all stakeholders to support President Tinubu’s vision of economic recovery by fostering cooperation and a unified approach, rather than engaging in media disputes and divisive rhetoric.
