Veteran Nollywood Actor Charles Olumo “Agbako” Passes Away at 101


Veteran Nollywood actor Abdulsalam Sanyaolu, fondly known as Charles Olumo and famously referred to as “Agbako,” has passed away at the age of 101. 

The sad news was announced by the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) on Thursday, October 31, 2024.

TAMPAN president, Bolaji Amusan, popularly known as Mr Latin, shared the news on Instagram, posting a heartfelt tribute to the late actor. 

“Tampanglobal announces the passing of Pa Charles Olumo Sanyaolu, fondly known as Agbako. 

“Details of the burial arrangements will be shared at a later time. Good night, Father, 25/02/1923 to 31/10/2024,” Mr. Latin wrote.

Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko also expressed his condolences on social media, saying, “Good night ooo, Baba Charles. a.k.a. Agbako, 101 years, ba wasa ba. R I P.” 

His message highlighted the respect and admiration Agbako commanded within the Nigerian film industry, with “ba wasa ba” indicating his incredible longevity and resilience in the industry.

Charles Olumo, whose career spanned decades, was celebrated for his unique acting style and versatility, often portraying dynamic roles that left a lasting impact on audiences. 

His career helped shape the Nigerian film industry, and he was widely regarded as an icon in Yoruba Nollywood.

The details of Agbako's burial arrangements are yet to be announced. 

The industry and fans mourn the passing of a legend, reflecting on his lifetime of contributions to Nigerian cinema. 

Agbako, a respected figure, will be remembered for his dedication, talent, and over a century of inspiring audiences across Nigeria and beyond.
